Jhoel Sarraude has become the first Long Beach FC alumnus to sign a professional contract overseas.
Recruited by then-head coach Eddie Soto, the striker led the team with six goals in the Fall 2024 season, which saw the club narrowly miss the UPSL Premier playoffs on goal difference.
Following a spell at USL League Two club Capo FC in the 2025 season, Sarraude has signed a professional contract with FC Zurrieq in Malta.
"Joel's an incredible human being," said Soto, who also coached Sarraude for two years at CSU Dominguez Hills. "I'm proud that I had the opportunity to spend some time with him and help him grow. He comes from a great family, and obviously being Argentinian, he's extremely passionate for the game."
Soto believes Sarraude's physical presence and technical ability as a number nine will translate well to the professional level.
"Am I surprised? No. I'm very happy for him because he's worked very, very hard for this chance and for this opportunity."
Sarraude made seven appearances for Long Beach FC as the club navigated the UPSL Premier Division for the first time.
"All the guys were very supportive, and they gave me a lot of confidence and a platform to showcase myself and to grow," said Sarraude of his time with the team.
"It's a dream come true. I've dreamed of this since I was a little boy. I started playing soccer and I've worked really hard up to this moment."
As for Sarraude's plans in Malta, the striker's priorities are simple.
"Scoring lots of goals. It's a beautiful island as well, so experiencing being abroad too. It's my first time in Europe, so playing the beautiful game in another country and getting paid and having a job is a blessing. It's a dream come true. I'm blessed for sure."
The Maltese Challenge League will begin in September, and Long Beach FC wishes Jhoel all the best as he kicks off his professional career.
